Femi-noism?

Women struggle with equal rights in their daily lives. Whether you’re a female protesting the popular Twitter account “Meninist” or debating the school’s dress code, at some point women are being told they are different (read less than) or not equal to men.

If you are a male or female the prominence of feminism has impacted you at some point in your life. Women are fighting a similar battle, searching for equality at the side of men. Women as a whole are a powerhouse. Together we could accomplish anything we wanted as a unified sex, so why does it seem we are so divided?

There are jealous social media posts, banter ensues and rivalries begin. My question is why is this necessary? Why are girls mean to one another? I’m sure there are objections to this line of thought and exceptions of kind and wonderful women, however,  in general most agree that women, aren’t frequently embodying the maternal expectations set for us.

The topic has been discussed in popular media such as the Huffington Post, Psychology Today, and Business Week magazine but none of them can really get to the bottom of the behavior. What is behind girls hostile behavior toward each other?

“I think it’s because girls are insecure and jealous,” Senior Micah Flood said.

Reflecting on jealousy, are men immune to this toxic infection? Men are portrayed oblivious to the drama that ensues between women.

“Girls react more with their emotions where guys are more physical,” Senior Michael Sharpe said.

Women are identified as maternal, yet we seem to be unsympathetic when it comes to each other.  Will this routine falter? Is it really survival of the fittest?  If all women could realize we are on the same team, the possibilities are endless.  But if women continue on this path of destruction, we will kiss feminism goodbye and welcome feminoism with open arms.
