One hundred and ninety five days, the average school year. During this time, juniors are overwhelmed with the stress of SATs, ACTs, and worrying about future schooling. It is so important that students keep their grades up, especially their junior year. Multiple sources have agreed that junior year is the most stressful year of high school. Junior Austin Talbot said he “…focuses a lot on my grades this year; making sure that I keep them up and don’t fall behind. Colleges are interested in your grades now so it is important to keep them up.”

Juniors have a full schedule when it comes to balancing clubs, academics, religion, family, and an entire social calendar. On average, students with high GPA’s are assigned three and a half hours of homework per weeknight. That adds up very quickly. Studies have been shown that a student will have close to 17 hours of homework a week. After balancing all the extracurricular activities and school work, it is very often that a student will feel overwhelmed.  “This year has already been extremely stressful and it has only been three months. I feel as though I am drowning in homework,” Claire Dayton, a junior, said.

Although the most common phrase is “senioritis”, many Juniors have unanimously agreed that “junioritis” is just as prominent for them. Although it may be hard, there are many tips and tricks that students do to help relieve the stress of homework. Many students try keeping a day planner to stay organized. This year is already very stressful and there is no way to get around it.
