Senior Varsity wrestlers Marcus Becerra, Griffin Thomas, and Mosese Fifita have been wrestling together all four years of high school. The three of them can be considered counters by their teammates as those who can be counted on to win.

Every wrestler prepares in their own way for a match. Becerra’s favorite way to prepare himself is to listen to Waka Flocka while pacing around in circles with Thomas and hitting a couple of moves with Fifita. Becerra than stands up his toy Hulk with his right hand in the air, raised like the referee does once he wins his match. Then off he goes onto the mat.

“I clear my mind by rolling my eyes to the back of my head, where my opponent can only see the whites of my eyes,” Becerra said.

Practicing every day except Sundays, Thomas describes wrestling practice as being, “Tough. One of the hardest things I’ve done with my life, but that’s why I love the sport so much, I take pride in how hard of a sport it is by nature.”

Making weight is something that wrestlers have to deal with. They have to make sure they are the right weight to compete. Depending on if they have made weight they may have to work harder to achieve their goals. Fifita’s secret to making weight is “skippingon second dinner.”

Becerra’s secret is slightly different, he chooses to wake up every morning at 4:30am and goes to the gym to lift some weights. He also eats 7 clean meals a day, one of them being two 4oz grilled chicken breast skinless with no seasonings and 1 ½ cups of rice or three cans of straight tuna and then drinking the tuna juice “cause that’s hardcore,” Becerra said. Then, he gets his cardio on at practice, and ends the day by heading back to the gym to burn off a ton of calories. “My weight takes care of itself,” Becerra said.

Becerra, Thomas, and Fifita all love to wrestle against Snohomish High School because they are the ‘in town rivals’, “It always feels good to take one of them out when you get the chance,” Thomas said.
