The girls Snohomish lacrosse team made it to the state semi-finals after graduating 12 seniors the previous year. After beating Mercer Island, ranked 4th, and Bellermine Prep the — seed, the team made it to the semi-finals to play the reigning state champions, #1 seed Issaquah. After a hard fight, Snohomish fell to last year’s state champions 15-7.

Hannah Graves, one of four returning varsity players from last year, felt accomplished about the game and season. “Last year when we lost in the semi-finals, we didn’t play well therefore we weren’t going out on a good note which made the loss 10 times worse. This year, yes we lost but one: we were the 13th seed with the top three. Two: compared to the first time we played Issaquah this season we did a million times better. Going to the semi-finals when no one expected us to and coming close to being on par with the number one seed was huge for us,” said graves, “In the first half it was much closer, in the first half we were only down by 4, at the most, and a majority of the time it was only two or three goals. We finally got to show what we had done all season and where we had come as a team.”

Annie Ferguson, the only freshman to make varsity this year, plays with sister and fellow defender Emma Ferguson. There are two sets of siblings on the team, making the end of the season especially difficult for them. “I wanted to win but it was also a nice way to end it because we all put full effort in and worked our hardest. I mean no one thought we would make it this far and overall our hard work paid off. I’m really proud of us, I’ve grown up watching the juniors and seniors because I always went to my sister’s games and they’ve always been there. It’s hard to see them go but they’re going on to do bigger and even better things. We’ve got to keep working hard, I think we have great seasons ahead of us,” said Ferguson.
