This year, our JV tennis team went undefeated for the second year in a row. The team was determined to continue the winning streak. They finished out the season with 13 consecutive wins.  “It was exciting to not lose, ever,” returning player Trey Lawrence said.

To keep motivated  during tough games, “We just thought about the streak, and how we didn’t want to be the team that ended it,” Lawrence said.

In a close game against Shorewood, it was up to Lawrence to bring back the win for his team. It was 3-3 and he was playing in the final match; whether he won or lost determined the game. Although he lost the first set, he didn’t lose hope. The entire team was anticipating the outcome as he struck the ball when he served. When he won the next two sets and pulled through for his team, he expressed his gratitude for winning the game. Lawrence explains Shorewood was his favorite game not only because he won the match for his team, but because he felt rivalry between him and the other players as well. Trey’s favorite memory throughout the season was that before every match, Junior Hunter Carlson gave the team a motivating pep talk. “He always had something inspiring to say and I always looked forward to his talks,” he said.

He explained how during a tough match, Carlson gave a pep talk to the team that “… really lifted our spirits during a time when doubt filled our minds,” Lawrence said.

Next year we hope to keep the streak going, let’s go Grizzlies!
