Around this time of year athletes gear up for the cold soccer season, and others must learn to retrain their bodies for their next upcoming sport. Whether it’s indoor or outdoor, athletes must now acclimate to the new conditions of the winter sports season.

“Going from school sports to club sports is definitely harder because school soccer is based on physicality and speed, rather than club soccer being based on actual skills,” Emmalee said, “because it’s going from fall to winter, it’s definitely a lot colder which makes your muscles tighter.”

Tyler Tanta experiences something similar as he transitions from cross country to winter training for track.

“Well, cross country and track are two different beasts, really. You’re going from running three mile races to running 800 and 1600 meters –everything’s just short and fast. The weather gets colder in the winter so it’s rainy, it’s cold, it just sucks and it’s not enjoyable, but when you drop those good times it makes all the training worth it,” says Tyler.

Dawson Crosby explains the pros and cons of transferring from football to basketball.

“Basketball is a lot more cardio stuff, so it can be hard getting used to all the running. Other than that, it’s better being indoors –as it get’s colder it’s nice to be inside where it’s all warm .”
