Although traffic lights are supposed to prevent car accidents, sometimes they do the opposite. The new light down the road from Glacier Peak has proven more dangerous than anything else. In the past month, there have been an astounding five wrecks and this is all thanks to the construction of the new light.

“I think it was made with good intentions, but it has really done more harm than good,” junior Asta Molver said. Kids coming from highway 9 and the Clearview area have been complaining nonstop about the traffic that this construction has caused. Not only is this a hassle in the mornings but the merging traffic and the new teenage drivers make this situation very dangerous.

“I always thought I was the good driver that would never get in a crash,” said senior Danielle Sass. “I guess a few cars up someone stopped and I didn’t even notice.” After rear-ending senior Marcus McAuliffe, the two pulled into the Glacier Peak parking lot and figured everything out.

Down the street, junior Nick Lavigne was pulling out of his neighborhood into the merging traffic when an oncoming car T-boned him.

“I pulled out and never even saw him coming,” Lavigne said. “What was going through my head? Well at first I just wanted to make sure he was okay, but then all I could think about was that my mom was really going to kill me.”

From little fender-benders to horrible T-bones, Glacier Peak students have been worried from the start. The change in morning routines seems to be a problem for everyone.

“I’ve just been so used to going straight through and now that there’s a light, it messes up my morning routine. I hate it,” junior Emma Hauge said.

Now that the construction is over and the accidents have seemed to stop, maybe the light will be helpful. However for most students, the light wasn’t worth all of the trouble.
