The 2015 Grizzly Idol competition is finally underway. Eighteen ambitious singing groups filed into the auxiliary gym during grizzly period of March 24th. For the auditions, each group had to sing and dance along to a song that was randomly assigned to them, whether they knew it or not.

Only 10 competitors were chosen from the original 18 to move on to the lunch performance rounds.  NWJ, a group consisting of Will DeMaris, Jett Eckstrom and Niko Gavino was one of the top performing groups of the audition round. The song that was chosen for them to sing was “Airplanes” by B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams. “At first we didn’t quite know what it was but soon after, we recognized the song and stunned the audience with our amazing performance that was on-the-fly,” NWJ member Jett Eckstrom said.

Each advancing group performed at both lunches on Tuesday, April 14th. The theme for the first week was a Current Song on the Top 100 Hits. The top two performing groups, based on text in votes by the audience, were Adam Jacksons group, who dressed in Pac-Man ghost suits and danced to Ghost by Ella Henderson and Derek Friend Sifferman’s group, popping their hips to Problem by Ariana Grande.

Four groups were eliminated and the remaining six groups will sing a love song at lunch on the 21st. From there two more groups will be eliminated and the remaining four will sing a throwback song. Then two more groups will be eliminated and the final two groups will sing at the fine arts assembly for the chance to be named the 2015 Grizzly Idol champion.
