In the WESCO South Championship track meet on Friday, Glacier Peak’s girls and boys teams placed first, outscoring the second place teams by over thirty points. It’s the first time that Glacier Peak has had both the girls and boys teams be WESCO South Champions.

In the javelin event, the boys team had three throwers on the podium. Senior Ethan Jones placed first, senior Matt Weyrauch took second and junior Zach Argue came in fourth. The three of them earned the team 28 points.

Many athletes broke their personal records this meet including Mason Braun, Heidi Smith and Olivia Lytle. In the discus, Braun threw five feet further than his old personal record of 158′ 5. His throw earned him first place in the discus. Smith not only ran faster than her personal record in the 3200 meter but also in the 800 meter. Lytle out jumped her opponents in the triple jump breaking her personal record with a distance of 34′ 6.5. All of these athletes contributed greatly to the team score in addition to advancing personally.

Although not all of the competitors broke their personal records, many still were victorious in their events. Junior Aubrey Carter ran the 100 meter dash and got first place with a time of 11.39 seconds. This time wasn’t his personal record but he beat his closest opponent by 0.2 seconds. Will DeMaris and Adam Jackson got first and second place respectively in the 400 meter. “Adam stayed in front of me for most of the race, but I passed him by the end,” DeMaris said. Jackson ran his PR of 51.44 seconds.

The boys 4×400 relay team got first place despite losing one of their runners to sickness. Isaac Ripley replaced Nicholas Mullineux Perrault. “Running the 4×4 was really fun. It’s my new favorite race because it’s more competitive than the mile,” Ripley said. Ripley ran his leg of the race in a time of 52 seconds bringing the team within 0.4 seconds of their personal record.

The entire team looks forward to competing in Districts on Wednesday and Friday at Shoreline Stadium.
