The juniors and seniors from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints visited Mary Haven Care Center on Tuesday the 9th for their youth night activity. Tuesday nights for these students usually consist of entertaining events that give them a chance to socialize and serve others. This week they wanted to bring the residents of Mary Haven holiday spirit by caroling around their rooms.

“It was a great experience to watch the elderly enjoy our Christmas singing during this holiday season, even if we weren’t that good!” junior Laurel Albrecht said.

They started in the Rec Room and sang to a group of people then proceeded to walk down the halls. The youth went from door to door with packets of song lyrics, flipping pages to sing a variety of songs including all of the favorites from “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” to “Hark the Herald Angel Sings.” They also took requested songs, looking the lyrics up on their phones if they did not have them printed in the packet.

“It was fun going to visit and sing to all of those at Mary Haven. It was a great way to bring the Christmas spirit to those who might not have felt it very strongly. I loved seeing all of their smiling faces when we sang. It is something that I would gladly do again” junior Anna Gluch said.

This is the second year that the students have caroled at an assisted living facility during the holiday season and they plan to continue the tradition. Their voices rang through the halls and filled the Care Center with the sound of the holidays making it a rewarding activity for both the youth and the residents of Mary Haven Care Center.
