The Realities of Senior Year for the Class of 2021

Lilja Bjornsson, Staff Writer

The class of 2021 has been hit hardest by this pandemic, causing them to lose the better part of their senior year and quite possibly the entire year. Despite challenges there are glimpses of hope in the coming months due to the “Road Map to In Person Learning” being put out weekly by the district offices.

Senior Hunter Hasselbom has been invested in Glacier Peaks theatre program since the 2017 musical Tarzan and not being able to partake in our fall and spring musicals of 2020 have taken a toll on him. Hasselbom says “I expected to see my friends everyday, preform in the musicals, and struggle with sleeping.” However his one positive is “At least my sleep schedule is healthy”.

Not many had a whole lot of expectations for this school year, like senior Lucy Dvorak, Lucy says” I really didn’t have any expectations, I just hoped to be back in school second semester.” Lucy is apart of DECA and has had to do their AREA  1 mock competition through virtual means along side her school work. Senior Dezi Mcdaniel also says ” My expectation was that we would be in school and the reality is that we aren’t”.

Seila Clymer spoke for the many with her expectations, Seila said ” I hoped to be able to do all the senior traditions but sadly we probably won’t get to.” The typical senior traditions being; senior nights, last homecoming, assembly cross over, last tolo, senior assassin, class meetings in the PAC, prom, serpentine, and graduation. Students hope every day that they will be able to go back, so hopefully they will be able to soon.
