“My hobbies used to be sports, like cheer and cross country. My sophomore year when I did my first cross country race, I got really discouraged. I was only like a half mile in, if even that, while people were much farther. Then, I just completely blew my knee out. It was all just a lot. It was a really traumatic experience, and it changed the way I viewed sports as a whole. I became scared to do any type of activity due to my unstable knees, and I’ve had three surgeries. It was also hard coping with the recovery while also balancing school and a social life at the same time, with me not being able to do much in crutches. This led to me finding other ways to spend my time, such as going to clubs like One Voice, and hobbies such as reading and cooking. This helped me learn how to adjust to hard things and always find a solution instead of feeling discouraged,” Ranous said.
