A closet account.

Instagram closets are slowly taking over social media. A new way to sell clothing is becoming more and more popular. Girls are now using this social media platform as an opportunity to make money. They make an extra Instagram account specifically for this cause. Posting anything from clothing to jewelry, most accounts have at least 100 followers. Girls will post all their clothing they are trying to sell in one day, or space it out between multiple days. Recently, even some boys have started to make Instagram closets. The bio of the Instagram will typically say, “Everything you see down below is up for grabs!”

Prices range anywhere from $5 to $25, depending on the brand, how worn, or how new the clothing item is. Each photo is taken of the clothing outside or against a wall, to take any distractions away from the clothing item itself. The caption of the photo will have a description of the clothing item saying what the item is and what the price is. Typically, accounts ask to have their buyers Direct Message them if they are interested in the item. If they want the item, the owner of the account usually brings the item to school, and the buyer gives them cash. Sometimes, the owner can asked to be Venmo-ed instead, which is an app where you can transfer money into someone else’s bank account.

Senior Taylor Brame described how she felt towards Instagram closets.

“I made a closet about a year ago. It’s called @tbramescloset. At first, people didn’t follow it because I don’t think they knew what it was. Slowly, people started following my account, and buying my items. I made probably 100 bucks all together. I would bring people the clothes to school and it usually went pretty smoothly,” Brame said.

Make sure you go check out an Instagram Closet sometime soon if you’re in need of some new clothes.
