The fire that burned down the dugouts two weeks before the season was a shock to the coaches and players. The bigger shock is they will be rebuilt even better.

“The dugouts are being rebuilt to the coach’s standards, high quality and with good storage, with all the things we have wanted in our dugouts. They should be finished and our field should be playable by our first home game March 25, 2015 against Edmonds-Woodway,” JV Coach Celix said.

The community is riled about what happened to the dugouts and the following Monday after the fire the softball booster club received an anonymous five hundred dollar donation to help with the reconstruction. Although this terrible thing happened right before the start of the season, the softball program isn’t going to let this bring them down, but fire them up even more.

“It is really sad and disappointing that someone would burn down our field but we are going to use it as a motivation to have a great season,” Varsity Coach Nies said.

“I was devastated to know that someone would have that kind of feeling towards our program. We coaches are stunned and speechless that the act was done twice, but going forward this is a motivator for our program, we are going to prove that we are unstoppable and we will be coming back better than last year,” Coach Celix said.

With spring sports beginning on March 2, 2015 the softball team will be using the varsity field for infield practice and will be using the JV field for batting practice.

“It is exciting that our dugouts are going to be flashy and customized to the coaches standards, they are going to be pretty fancy and I am excited to play this season,” senior Jocelyn Matheny said.

The school has already submitted their documents to the insurance company to start the process of the rebuilt with the value of the equipment,

“Everything that was useable before the fire happened will be replaced,” athletic director Albertine said.

There is confidence in the coaching staff in the rebuilding of the dugouts that it will be better than before.

“As a coach with the players in our program our job is to not worry about who did it. We will be focused on the season and let the district take care of the investigation as to figuring out who did it. We are more than ready to play ball,” Coach Celix said.
