Policy on Absences and Make Up Work

Policy on Absences and Make Up Work

The school policy for missing work grants students the opportunity to make up missed work for as many days as they were absent. This flexible approach allows students to negotiate makeup arrangements with their teachers, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Students have faced challenging situations when trying to catch up on missed assignments and exams. However, of this revised policy empowers students to take control of their academic progress. “I think it’s cool by me and it works fine,” Isabella Tran said.

Recognizing the importance of student-teacher collaboration, the school administration believes that this policy will lead to improved communication and understanding between students and educators. They also believe that when students ask for help, they will get them to trust them more. Talking with teachers beforehand is always important if you know you’re going to be absent the next day. That’s why when students talk to teachers beforehand, they can get more time to work on their assignments or get them beforehand. “You get as much days as you missed to make up work, but I think students in my class can always talk to me and we will figure something out,” Mr. Krienen said.

The flexible makeup policy also acknowledges that students may face unique circumstances that impact their attendance. This approach ensures that students are not penalized for situations beyond their control, such as illness or family emergencies. Glacier Peak High School’s implementation of a flexible absence makeup policy has provided students with the opportunity to negotiate the makeup of missed work for as many days as they were absent. Students can negotiate with teachers leading to a more supportive learning environment. By recognizing the unique circumstances that may lead to absences, the school aims to ensure that students are not unduly penalized and can achieve academic success.

I appreciate your approach to the article information. You have presented a variety of options for making up assignments, communication with teachers being a key. I would also like to add that if the absence is unexcused, the teacher does not have to provide a make-up oppotunity. Keep this in mind when choosing to skip class.
