As summer approaches in May, the annual art show comes along with it. The art show is a place where the student body gets to showcase their creativity and look at their peers’ pieces. One of the exhibits that stuck out this year was Gianna Hardy’s cake art. Through her technique, she creates these beautiful cakes that look like real cake, yet they are made of cardboard. “For Valentine’s Day, I decided to make cakes for my friends, and that’s where I discovered that I liked piping, and so for my passion project, I decided to do that. I started with a cardboard box and then used a lightweight spackle to pipe on the frosting, then I made the fruits out of model magic. The art show is a thing where I can showcase all my hard work and appreciate everyone else’s,” Hardy said.
Another artist who participated this year was Annelise Kroeker. This is the first year that she had her own exhibit, but she has had some of her pieces on display in the past. “My favorite part is setting all the boards up and just seeing everything come together and decorating it. I’ve spent a lot of time on each of my pieces, usually with colored pencils, some days working up to 12 hours,” Kroeker said.
Most exhibits follow traditional art styles, whether it be photography, realism, or pottery. But one of the more different exhibits was Azure Birch’s exhibit, “I’ve been in the art show since freshman year. We have to put artwork up cause we’re in art class. In art 3 and art 4, we choose our own projects in our portfolio. I experiment in my art a lot. This year I’ve done a lot of painting and last year I used no color in my art. One of my favorite art pieces I’ve done was this year, a painting I did where I used a reference photo of me and copied it,” Birch said.
