The majority of students picked out their future school on or before May 1st, the day that many colleges mark as a deadline to commit. With the stress of commitment out of the way, now many seniors must figure out what they need to bring to their dorm, whether they are staying close to home or going far away.”I’m a guy, so I feel like I don’t really have to bring much. Plus, the more you bring, the messier the space is, and I really don’t like messy spaces. If I forget anything I need, I’ll just order it, or buy it there,” Landon Thompson said.
On the contrary, some tend to want to bring the majority of their belongings with them, which some may consider over-packing.”I’m packing a lot since I am going out of state to Grand Canyon University. I’m worried I won’t bring enough, or I might not have something I need, so I’m making sure I have everything. I don’t really have the option to just go home and grab what I need, and if I already have it I don’t really want to have to buy it again, so I want to make sure that I don’t spend more money than I have to because it’s just easier to bring it with me,” said Lily Vanderveen.
Other students are moving, but not necessarily to the dorms. Apartments are another option for housing nearby colleges. “I’m moving into my brother’s apartment in Seattle. We are both going to Seattle University, so I thought it would just be easier to move in there. Since I will only be an hour away from home, if I forget something, all I have to do is drive and go get it. I’ll bring what I know I need, but I’m not too worried about forgetting anything since I’m still close to home,” Gael Gurrero said.
