Bracelets for a Better Cause

Heba Abu-Halaweh has been making and selling bracelets, in attempts to raise money for organizations and fundraisers who look to help with the cause of the Palestinian fight for freedom against Israel. For every bracelet sold, Abu-Halaweh is donating 60% of her profits. “I started making bracelets during sophomore year, and it started as a hobby,” Abu-Halaweh said when asked how she started this all, “but I recently started making lots of Palestinian-colored ones.”

As the intense and violent events overseas continue, Abu-Halaweh has felt very connected to the conflict, as she has her roots in Palestine. “As a Palestinian myself this is a very emotional topic for me, so going on the internet and seeing all the attacks, I kind of felt helpless. So I took into consideration ‘I’ve made Palestinian bracelets before, why not do something and use them to donate to charity?'”

Abu-Halaweh has been very vocal about the conflict on social media and constantly posts to spread awareness about the events as they continue. ” I will never stop posting the truth about Palestine. No matter what. Nothing will stop me from trying to free Palestine,” Abu-Halaweh posted on her story on November 16th.

When asked what others can do to help the Palestinian cause, she said, “Show up to protests, along with spread awareness on Instagram and social media. Also doing research can really help you know more about the situation. Donate when you can. “

The bracelets themselves come in four different sizes (14cm, 16 cm, 18cm, 20cm), and the bracelets are priced at $5 for in-person purchases, and $6 for online purchases. “Even if they aren’t the most fashionable, they are for a really good cause and can make a huge difference,” Abu-Halaweh said.
