As first semester comes to an end, May is slowly creeping closer and closer, meaning the AP Exams are almost here. With the amount of work and material to learn for each AP course, what’s the best way to study for them? Here’s a list of a few resources to help you ace your upcoming AP exams.
One of the most effective ways to study for the exams is to go onto College Board. College Board is a non-profit organization that hosts the program for the AP exams. Through the College Board website, students can sign up or log into their AP Classroom after putting in an access code from their teacher. Students can access materials such as practices exams, videos, and more, making it an easy and accessible way for students to study for their exams. “I do a lot of practice test on AP Classroom, and I also search up practice questions online. I use AP Classroom the most, and I like the fact that it has practice questions that are pretty similar to the ones on the test. In general, I only use AP classroom when a teacher assigns it but before the exam, I do any practices they have available leading up to the test” Elizabeth Huang said.
Additionally, Khan Academy is another resource to study for exams. Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization that provides free and comprehensible resources for learning subjects, including AP Courses. It’s most known for the practice questions it provides, helping students practice answering questions quickly and helping students focus on individual topics in each course. “I used Khan Academy for AP Chemistry last year. It actually helped quite a bit because it matched up well with the test. Also, a lot of the topics are explained very clearly and it’s a good platform to use for free practice,” Esten Hubbard said.
Another helpful resource is YouTube. YouTube provides free access to video content, where students can find different content creators uploading materials, explanations, or providing information on different AP Courses. “I study a lot using the material on AP Classroom and I also find some YouTube tutorials or videos online that review a lot of the material that is covered on the exams, so that’s mostly how I study. I feel like the teachers on YouTube explain the content really well depending on who you watch, cause some videos do explain it better than others. So, I just find a good video and watch it and see if it helps me. There haven’t been a lot of youtubers I’ve found this year, but mostly for history, Heimler’s a good video source.” Max Shivetz said.
Commonly, AP Prep Books like The Princeton Review, The Barons, and more are available for students to buy at Barnes and Noble, Half Priced Books, or in the individual AP Prep websites so students review topics, units and provide practice exams and/or questions students can use to study. “I use the study books from Barnes and Noble, like the Barons, and specifically search for PDFS and online questions like Khan Academy and random PDFs online to practice before my exams” Olga Torchylo said.
However, students such as senior Thomas Morrison combine different study methods to prepare for his AP exams, learning from friends and exploring different resources to find their best method to learn the material. “Typically for AP classes I use the materials on canvas. Usually though, it’s fun websites like Quizlet or Desmos, and a lot of times it’s also YouTube. There’s a lot of resources on YouTube where you can find channel that really clicks and then use it for several subject” Morrison said, “I don’t study with friends a lot but sometimes I try and find out what my friends use so I can approach problems at a different angle because then I have ‘more tools in my took box’ so to speak.”
