“This year is my first time doing track & field, and for now, I’m just trying to figure out what I’m good at in throws because that is the event I want to do. Right now I’m doing discus and shot put, and the technique for it is a lot about form. To throw farther in discus, I need to make sure that my arm is extended out all the way, even when I spin around, because the momentum carries on pretty hard. It’s really weird at first because you kind of have to spin your hand over as you turn around and really roll it off your fingers so that it spins a lot. Our practice for it is mostly just form, but we have days where we go to the weight room, Monday and Tuesday. We usually just do general exercises like pull-ups, bench press, squats, but then there are also event-specific workouts, like for discus we really focus on form, and for shot-put we focus on pushing the bar,” George Saliba said.
