March 17 is just two short days away, and we know what that means. It’s St. Patrick’s Day.

For many, this holiday means very little. Mainly because the United States doesn’t make a very big deal about it. But what’s the point in having a holiday if you’re not going to anything to celebrate it? Take some time to celebrate this holiday with your family or friends this year, because if you truly try, it can be a fun holiday for everyone!

Here are a few fun activities you can take part in this Saturday, whether in Seattle or in your own home.

Go To A Parade:

Each St. Patrick’s Day (or sometimes on the nearest weekend), Seattle puts on one of its best parades. Bagpipers, pirates, drill teams, Irish dancers, bands, and more all march in a parade. The parade route follows along 4th Avenue at James Street and ends at Westlake Park (on 4th Avenue at Pine), and usually starts around 12:30 p.m. Get there early to get a good spot.

Go Run A Marathon:

The “St. Patrick’s Day Dash” is held in Seattle every year. This run covers about four miles of ground and encourages everyone to participate, whether you want to walk or run. The mood is light with racers often dressing in costumes, so you’ll be running (or watching) leprechauns and Guinness cans jog by. Most runners at the very least wear green to get into the spirit. The run begins and ends at Seattle Center.

Go Grab A Shamrock Shake:

Although many can agree that McDonald’s isn’t quite the best food option, they do have a seasonal shake that only comes around once every year: the Shamrock milkshake. You’ll often see high schoolers posting about this special green drink all over social media as soon as it comes into town. What better way to celebrate the season than with a green mint milkshake, with a festive name as well?

Those are just three activities you could partake in on St. Patrick’s Day.

“Even though I’m not Irish, St. Patrick’s Day is a really fun holiday because I can hang out with my friends and go to McDonald’s for the Shamrock Shakes. One time I went to Seattle for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and it was really fun,” Taylor Brame said.

Imagine all of the other fun things you could do if you sat down at your computer for a few minutes and researched the fun activities going on this Saturday!
