An annual event is held in the commons for the soon-to-be graduating seniors and the father figures in their lives. It’s a night for reflection, advice, and to connect with their dads among fellow students with fun games and delicious food. Two guest teacher speakers, Mr. Christensen and Mr. Hill, spoke of their experiences as fathers and passed on advice they had given to their kids to the seniors. Not only is it a time for students to take advice from other father figures, but it is also a time where dads can relate to teachers and blend what they have learned throughout being a parent. Alongside the teachers, two students, Tessa Mossburg and Landon Thompson, gave their own speeches. Mossburg spoke up about her relationship with her dad and how grateful she is for him, expressing her gratitude. While Landon gave his piece of advice that he thought to share with his fellow peers.
“It was an honor to be able to speak at this event because I got the chance to honor and talk about my dad and the lovely memories we’ve shared. Dads are the centerpiece for a lot of our lives, and to get to speak on their importance and make sure to recognize them was a huge honor,” Landon Thompson said.
Among groups, dads and kids worked together on a fun sports trivia game, competing with the other tables. Alongside trivia, more physical games were held in the back of the commons, giving the families a fun chance to play mini golf, soccer, mini basketball, and other indoor games. The event was filled with fun, laughter, and heartfelt moments. Students and dads left feeling more appreciated and connected. It was a special evening that celebrated family, support, and the new journey ahead for the graduating students and parents.
“I had an absolute blast, I’m so grateful I got to experience this with my dad. It got me emotional, reminiscing about all the good times we had together. I feel like the events were really fun to do with him. We were laughing and goofing around,” Lucy Cornelius said.
