On Monday, May 19, GP seniors spent the day out of school for Senior Skip Day. This tradition rewards the graduating class with an extra-long weekend as part of the last few senior events. The ASB class officers set up a small itinerary for the day, welcoming the class to spend time together at Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park and sunset at Marsh Park in Kirkland. Students had fun climbing and jumping around together on trampolines; the big group of kids made for an enjoyable experience. Later in the evening, the kids met up once again at the park as the sun was beginning to set. Some played volleyball in the sand while others sat and talked on the field, watching the sky get dark. It was a perfect day for the senior class to spend all together, enjoying one of the last times they would be connected as a grade.
“My favorite part was the whole day! I had so much fun with friends at Flying Squirrel, and I learned a bunch of new tricks on the trampoline. And then I had a super fun time playing volleyball at the park with everyone. I was so glad to see lots of people show up,” Brynna Pukis said.
Other students spent their Senior Skip Day enjoying a hike with their friends at Lake Serene, about an hour East of GP. With a 7.2-mile round trip, these seniors spent 6 hours together, creating a huge bonding experience for all of them. Fun memories were made during this trip, making it worth it. Though the trek is steep and long, hiking is a perfect activity to do with a group of friends, especially with only a few months before seniors go their separate ways.
“I walked out on a log over the waterfall to get a picture of Sharn in front of the waterfall. I slipped and fell on my butt and then slipped backwards and fell off the log. I barely caught myself and I was dangling over one of the tiers of the waterfall hanging on with one arm,” Callan Childs said.
