Although the theatre productions at GP are now done for the year, that is not stopping students from sharing their love for theatre outside school productions. Multiple musicals and auditions are being held at local theaters around the area. Some shows that students from GP have been cast in recently include “Something Rotten” at Hope Theatre Group and “Chicago” at Village Theatre’s Everett location. “I am in ‘Something Rotten’ at Hope Theatre Group, and we are performing July 11 and 12, for only one weekend, but the run could potentially get extended if we get good ticket sales. I am playing Shakespeare, and the show takes place during the Renaissance during the peak of Shakespeare’s career, so he is kind of a diva, and walking around pretending to be a diva in the show sounds really exciting,” Hayden Austneburg said.
Village Theatre’s production of Chicago will have performances on the dates from July 18 to August 3. “I am doing Chicago at Village Theatre. I just have always loved Chicago, it is one of my favorite musicals and has been since I was a kid, so I am excited to be a part of it,” Rowan Latch said. “The audition process was a little nerve-racking compared to school auditions since it is a bigger, more professional studio. Everybody was very kind when I went in to do my song and monologue. The only big difference between auditioning for a school show vs. auditioning for this was that there was an accompanist, which was a little scary, but besides that, it was a pretty normal audition process.”
There are also shows in the area still in the process of casting. Maegan Skrinde is auditioning for the upcoming shows CATS at Studio East and Les Misérables at Village Theatre’s Issaquah location. “‘CATS’ is a spectacle show, all the dance sections excite me a lot, and ‘Les Mis’ is my favorite show of all time, and I would kill to get to be a part of it so, it’s very exciting I get the opportunity to audition,” Skrinde said.
