According to NewYorkNBC.com, “67-percent of Halloween celebrants are planning to purchase a costume this Halloween, spending a total of 3.1 billion”. With so many people purchasing costumes this Halloween, you will see many superheroes, Pokémon’s, and Presidential candidates walking the street.

2016 has been a prime year for superhero movies including “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice”, “Deadpool”, and “Suicide Squad” and shows such as “Supergirl” and “Arrow” creating some of the most popular costumes of 2016 such as Harley Quinn, The Joker, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl. When asked why she chose to dress up as Harley Quinn, Amanda Johnson (Junior) she said “It seemed pretty easy, and fun to do. I wanted to do the makeup [aka the smeared eye shadow and face tattoos].” And although the newest Star Wars movie, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” came out at the end of 2015, the characters Rey, Finn, and BB-8 are still on a rise, ages ranging from child to adult.

PokemonGO exploded over the summer, bringing back the nostalgic childhood memories while making the player walk around. This well liked game made Pokemon characters including Charmanders, Pikachu, and a Pokemon trainer itself some of the most in-demand costumes on the market. Carolyn Fransico dressed as a Poke ball, and when asked why she said “It was really easy to make, and  I could do it with stuff I already had. I grew up with Pokemon, so it is also nostalgic for me.”

And of course we cannot (or rather not allowed to) forget about the 2016 Presidential Elections, with the candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. With both candidates being extremely popular, masks with their faces, and tee shirts sporting the terms “Nasty Woman” and “Bad Hombre” have become world-wide hysterical Halloween costumes.

Ken Bone, a second presidential debate attendee (who asked Trump and Clinton to complement each other) is also a top choice for a Halloween costume this year. With a red sweater, glasses and mustache, you can pull of the Ken Bone look.

And, finally, the “clownpocolypse” that has taken over the USA over this past month, caused a huge spike in the sales of clown costumes and masks. Although, stores such as Target have taken out their clown costumes, since many say that puts the people wearing the costumes in danger.
