Manufacturing is one of the biggest industries in Washington state. Here at school we have a cutting edge manufacturing shop with HAAS machinery and programing software. The shop is run by Mr. Mossberg and Mr. Katin who teach classes in the classroom that coincide with the shop.

Senior Brennan Robinson has taken shop since his sophomore year and is in second period Manufacturing Technologies, a class of twelve and loves it. “It’s amazing to be able to take something and make it into something valuable,” Robinson said. As a senior, shop class has opened up opportunities for him and other students in the class.

A perk to the manufacturing class is an easy transition to advanced education from schools like DeVry University. Boeing also offers jobs to employees in training.  “Being in the shop feels like I have the opportunity to make anything I want to,” senior Jayce White said.

“I love being in the higher level of shop class because you can do whatever project you want,” he said. His favorite project was working on the aluminum tops on one of the machines that will be used in a game.

With a composite materials and HAAS machinery, the shop has an extended range of skills to learn such in composites, metals, programming and machinery skills. Boeing is particularly interested in students learning machinery skills.

Boeing continues to push the limits with its first mostly composite commercial aircraft, the 787 Dreamliner, and soon the 777X, featuring the largest composite wings ever produced according to the website choosewashingtonstate.com. Boeing is showing advancement and interests in composite and metal skills, both which are taught in the shop here at school.
