Aiming for Greatness

Here, we have assemblies almost monthly. It’s a good way for everyone to come together as a school body, but sometimes the problem is that some students don’t show enough respect to the speaker.  It’s important for students to keep in mind the behaviors that should be followed to have a positive assembly experience. “I think our school’s student respect during assemblies is not the best. We should be better, but the problem is that some teachers have been telling kids to be better, and we should be better, but we haven’t been improving, there needs to be some action,” Grace Lee said.

Students should be attentive during assemblies and avoid talking to neighbors and making unnecessary noises so they can listen to the speaker(s) in the activities that are in the assembly. Students need to show respect for the other students or teachers that put in work outside from school to make an awesome assembly. Students should also be aware of who they sit next to. If they sit with friends, they should try their best not to make a distraction out of themselves. “I would give us a 7/10. Most of the kids are probably pretty good when it comes to respect. But it seems like there’s always a few kids that always sit together and they don’t act appropriately. They’re not necessarily being terrible, but they aren’t being respectful and paying attention to the speaker,” Mr. Morgan said.

Last, at assemblies student must leave only when told to do so and no earlier. This shows disinterest and is not a nice thing to do for the students and teachers that put in time for the assembly. Students should try to maintain respect for assembly behaviors so everyone has a positive assembly experience. “I’ve taught at multiple schools, and I think that the student body here at GP does a really good job during assemblies. I think they are very respectful; they know the difference between a respectful assembly and a pep assembly, we know when to cheer or not,” Mr. Sandstrom said, “I think we could always improve but I’m really happy with what I see at GP.”
