Have I got News for you Newsies is playing at Village Theatre in Everett. If you are looking for an upbeat show with amazingly talented guys and beautiful songs this is the show for you. Newsies opened at Village Theatre in Issaquah on Nov. 9 and is now playing in Everett till Feb. 4.

Newsies is about a group of guys who go on strike because their publisher Joseph Pulitzer tires to raise the distribution price. Jack Kelly becomes the President of the strike and then must decide between his dream of moving to Santa Fe or own up to his responsibility.

This extraordinary cast is primarily males who can belt high and dance very well. When you watch all these men dance together you just can’t help but smile with pure joy. These guys have trained in dancing their whole life and it becomes very apparent when you watch this show. The lead is played by Joey Barreiro who was also on the national Broadway tour of Newsies. He is phenomenal. When Barreiro sings “Santa Fe” I got chills, he hits all the notes so well and makes it seem so effortless. Barreiro portrays the emotions of being extremely mad from the strike and being a romantic flirt extremely well. All the Newsies are doing crazy flips and must do all styles of dance such as Ballet, Jazz and Tap. Taylor Niemeyer (Katherine) is phenomenal, she does a very good job of expressing the fun yet serious side of the role. The star of the show in my opinion is the ensemble or the Newsies. The Newsies make the entire show so much better, the lead roles are important but without the ensemble the show would be so much different. The amount of talent that goes into Newsies is just spectacular the whole cast must be so strong in acting, singing and especially dancing.

I have seen Newsies twice and plan on going a third time. This is a show that truly anybody can enjoy. Get your tickets now. Shows are Tuesday- Sunday.
