The Weeknd’s best-selling album After Hours recently hit its three-year anniversary since its release date: March 20, 2020. In the first few months after the release of After Hours, it made approximately 418,000 sales. The accumulated global sales of the album being around 4.5 million mostly came from the US with roughly 3,374,000 copies, Canada with 400,000, and France with 200,000. “Blinding Lights”, “Save Your Tears” featuring Ariana Grande, and “After Hours” represent this critically acclaimed album as the top songs. With over 3.4 billion streams as of March 2023, Blinding Lights is the number one song on Spotify. Although this album is a big success, the Weeknd’s audience seem to prefer his other projects. “Personally, I think his best album is Starboy. Every song on it is a hit. After Hours has a lot of good songs, but I believe Starboy is better overall,” Hanna Ligons said.

This album has given the artist opportunities to promote his music such as giving a performance during a Super Bowl Halftime Show. During the Super Bowl LV halftime show at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, otherwise known as the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show, The Weeknd performed the songs “Call Out My Name”, “Starboy”, “The Hills”, “Can’t Feel My Face”, and “I Feel It Coming” featuring Daft Punk. “I had heard Blinding Lights a million times on the radio but after his Super Bowl half time show I specifically remembered Save Your Tears and really decided I liked The Weeknd and wanted to listen to him more,” Addie Reed said.

After Hours has claimed many awards even when running against other world-renowned artists and albums. It won the Juno Award for Album of the year in 2021, the American Music Award for Favorite Album Soul/R&B in 2020, and the Billboard Music Award for Top R&B Album in 2021. Nominees for these awards include Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, Summer Walker, Doja Cat, Kehlani, and more. “The song that got me into The Weeknd was “Blinding Lights.” I heard this song all over the radio a few years ago, and I used to listen to the radio religiously so that’s where I was introduced to him,” Sabrina Betita said.
