FINALLY, after having their first two home games cancelled due to inclement weather, the boys varsity basketball team had their home opener last night, January 7. “Knowing that we only had like six [home games] or so in the season, it was a real downer, but we had to overcome it and now its really exciting to finally have everyone in the gym and be able to play in front of our home crowd and everything,” junior Ben Williams said.

The boy’s varsity basketball team goes out to team dinner before every home game. It is usually held at a players house where they provide the pre-game meal. “My favorite meal is Chicken Alfredo which is made by Sam Waldow’s mom,” senior Trey Leckner said.

Last night’s theme for the home opener against Lake Stevens was crazy white and blue, which seems to be a favorite theme for most students and athletes. “It really makes us feel together since its our school colors and I think it’s strong, like were all one team,” Williams said

After a long battle and fight, the boy’s basketball team unfortunately lost 62-63. But throughout the game, the team and the fans never gave up hope, even when they were down. Everybody was just happy to be there, win or lose. “I loved the energy at the first home game against Lake Stevens, everyone was so excited to cheer on the Grizzlies,” cheerleader Bridgette McDougall said.

Now it’s time to practice for next week’s game against Jackson High School, which is possibly one of the biggest games of the season. “Every year I look forward to the rivalry that this game involves, and I feel like its the game we have the biggest student sections for both teams,” student Katelyn McCallum said.
