Glacier peak students gathered in the commons eagerly waiting to meet their grizzly cubs. Elementary students from three different schools came to meet their older grizzly. Grizzly cubs have been a mentorship program at Glacier Peak High School for many years.“I was actually really nervous to meet her at first, but it turned out really good. We hit it off really well, she was like a mini me! My cub Lila Shea also had the same 6th grade teacher as me which we bonded over. From having a positive experience through grizzly cubs since 4th grade, she can’t wait to start high school and join different clubs that I told her about, Kayla Wentland said. This program allows 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to have a role model in their life and experience a little taste of what high school will be like in the future.. “We all made decorative signs that said the cub’s names so they could find us. We met our cubs and filled out a questioner with them. We had the chance to show them around the school and to some of our classes. The whole experience was really fun and we also got to have cookies and milk!” Olivia Stephenson said. “I thought it was cool to bond with someone I didn’t know at all and younger than me. It is so fun to see all the cubs looking up to their mentors. You can see it in their faces and through their actions. My grizzly cub told me she thought the high school was really cool to see and she had a lot of fun. I could see they were all really excited to be there,Haley Miller said. Grizzly Cubs will have different fun events throughout the school year helping not only grizzly cubs to grow but high school mentors as well.
