  1. Stay Hydrated. It super important that between all the energy drinks and late-night study snacks that students stay hydrated with water. Brains and bodies need hydration to focus and when someone has a big headache from being dehydrated it can cause time loss for studying. Make sure to take care of you body while taking your finals.
  2. Take breaks. Take breaks every 25 minutes while you are studying. After about an hour your brain is no longer intaking the information and needs to rest. But do not go on a smart phone which will cause even more distraction. Plus, your eyes need a break from all the blue light. Try going for a quick walk or playing with your pet.
  3. Study with bright colors. While most of our student’s work is on computers this year make sure you are still writing down your notes on either flash cards or in bright pen colors that coordinate with the subject. This will make notes easier to comprehend and study. Students memorize things faster and longer when written with a pen and paper so make sure to type and write while studying.
  4. Eat good foods. While its easy to grab that donut or candy bar, especially at night while studying try to stay away. Those foods will not help with brain activity and can cause of feeling of unhealthiness. Opt for high omega 3 foods and non-processed to give your brain the fuel it needs.
  5. Reward yourself. At the end of the week and semester reward yourself. Go out with friends (COVID-19- friendly) and try to get out of the house. Go hiking or other outdoor actives. Its important to show yourself care as well. Do some meditation or gardening. Find something enjoyable and make sure you give yourself a break to go regenerate.
