During our 2020-2021 school year, Glacier Peak High School gained a new SRO (School Resource Officer), Deputy Weekes. He transferred  to Washington from Baltimore, Maryland. His first day on the job, he was interviewed with some questions to get to know him.

“Why did you decide to become a deputy?” “You know, you might get the cliché answer, ‘I always wanted to be one since I was a little kid’, but that really is my answer. It was between that and a firefighter, and I took the other route of becoming a police officer to help people.”

“How long have you been in law enforcement?” “I’ve been in law enforcement for going on 8 years. I’ve been in Snohomish County for 3 years and I worked at Baltimore PD for four years. So, it’s a bit of a transition, but since I’ve been here in Washington State, I’ve really enjoyed it.”

“So, it’s been a positive experience for you, being in Washington?” “Absolutely. I’ve actually had one of the best experiences here. One of the best experiences I’ve actually had is being here in the school. Since actually working with young adults, it’s kind of an opportunity for them learning from me and me learning from them.”

“What exactly made you want to work inside the school?” “Uh, so, I guess I started back in high school, working at different camps. As I got older, um, working for Baltimore, we do outreach programs. Teaching kids about leadership and skills they can learn. Then I got here, they had the position for a school resource officer and I was like ‘Oh, wonderful!’, I might as well take the opportunity now while I can.”

“Outside of school, what do you do with your off time?” “So, on my off time, I’m more of a homebody. I don’t like hiking, hahaha. Fishing, I’m not really fond of either, but I’m working towards that while I’m here. Sports, I play soccer and basketball. I just started golf, I realized I’m not that great at it. Haha, I can’t beat Tiger Woods. I’m getting there though. I like watching different movies, horror is probably my favorite genre to watch. Um, I play video games here and there, when I get the chance. I have a 3 year old, and he pretty much runs the house, so I spend a lot of time chasing after him.”

So, don’t be afraid to stop in the halls and say hi to our new SRO!
