The Kellogg Zaher sports complex hosted their annual Best of the West Lacrosse tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada this past weekend. Male and female athletes in grades 8-12 traveled from states all over to compete for the championship. The Snohomish Girls Varsity and JV team met early Friday morning at SEATAC airport and traveled down together ready to bring home the championship title.

With only 15 girls per team each team only had 1 or 2 subs at a time.  This created an even bigger challenge for this Pacific Northwest team.  “For a team that doesn’t typically leave Washington, the heat was a little daunting, especially since we didn’t have many subs. Everyone still played their hardest regardless of the weather,” Varsity player Hannah Graves said.

Snolax JV and Varsity went undefeated and placed 1st in their seed by the last game Saturday night. Sunday was a big day for both teams. They were both scheduled to play 3 games, but this was the semifinals which meant single elimination.

Ending with an overall record of 7-0 the Snolax Girls JV beat Vimy Lax 7-5, making them the champions for their league. The pressure was on for varsity. After a neck and neck game, they were defeated by Lone Peak ending the game at 8-6. The Snolax Varsity girls ended second overall with a record of 6-1.
