This year the boys’ basketball team’s run in the playoffs came to a close after losing by 1 to Stanwood. It was the third place game in districts and whoever won got to advance to state.

After beating Stanwood in the first round of playoffs GP knew they could upset the Spartans again with GP being the 7 seed and Stanwood being the 2, but after a long hard fought battle they came up 1 point short. “We had it, I was not ready for it to be over, I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that it’s all over,” Zach Hatch said.

Right when that final buzzer went off, the seven seniors had to face the fact that they just played their last school game for their career. As they walked off the court into the locker room, their friends and family gave them one last big cheer to show how much they have loved watching them play. The players wanted to show their gratitude but it was too hard to look up after losing the biggest game of their lives.

The locker room was rough. Coach Hunter didn’t know what to tell his players except for the fact that he was so proud how far they’ve come since the beginning of the season. After a shaky start, they bounced back and lived up to the legacy of Glacier Peak and came alive in the playoffs. He knew what the seniors were going through since he was a player himself and was in the same position that they were back in his high school days.

After the end of season speech, some players couldn’t hold back tears. “I was lucky enough to play with my best friends over these years and now it’s over and I couldn’t help but shed some tears,” Kyle Dvorak said.

Growing with up each other and being on the same team since grade school there was a bond built so strong around basketball that they just couldn’t believe it was over. As they walked back to the gym welcomed by friends and family it made the loss harder to swallow. All the seniors woke up the next day wishing it was all just a dream.
