On Monday the boys’ soccer team headed to Shorewood to take on the Thunderbirds in the title game for Wesco. The Grizzlies won in a shutout 2-0. It’s their second Wesco title in three years and they improved their conference record to 11-0.

The first goal of the game came in the first half from junior Camron Miller. Connor Seed crossed the ball into the mess of players and Miller was able to kick it in with a clear shot of the goal. “I was so pumped to get the lead, now I knew as a defender I have to make sure no one gets by me so we can keep this lead” defender Oscar Rozanski said. The grizzlies went into the half sitting on a 1-0 lead.

The Thunderbirds came out firing on all cylinders but the Grizzlies defense was too good to get by. The second goal came with 10 minutes to play. Forward Daniel Guerrero was able to volley in the ball with his left foot with a nice assist on a free kick from junior Cage Roberge. “This was a huge relief, being one of the defenders on the field I had a lot of pressure to not let them score and now we had a comfortable 2-0 lead” senior Parker Hein said.

The final whistle blew and the Grizzlies celebrated their Wesco title. Their last game of the season is at home against Everett on Wednesday. Their district opponent is unknown but it will be the number eight seed. The Grizzlies hope to achieve the same goal they set out for at the beginning of the season, making it to state.
