Known for being a tennis powerhouse in the Wesco 3A league, the JV tennis team finally reached their goal, a goal that many thought was unattainable: an undefeated season. Finishing the season 16-0 after beating Snohomish High School 5-2 in a rivalry match, the JV team was beyond excited when they ended their season with a perfect record.

“My favorite match had to be either our match against Jackson or Snohomish,” freshman Nate Walchenbach said. “We had such a good team chemistry, and everyone seemed to have two common goals: winning and having a close team.”

Never failing to keep up the high energy, many of the players’ favorite moments also came from the team bonding off of the court. From the bus rides to the post-match stops at Dick’s, multiple jokes and memories were made that will last much longer than the daily tennis practices and warmups.

“We kind of had a drag race” said sophomore Riley Duke while chuckling. “You wouldn’t understand”.

After beating Jackson High School 5-2 in their season opener, many teammates became excited about the potential of their strong team through the rest of their high school careers.

“This was by far the best team that I’ve coached,” Coach Ken Steenis said. “I can’t wait to see how these guys do the next couple of years.”

As many new freshmen joined the team, returning sophomores like Andrew Chauvin made an effort to become leaders in the program throughout the season, trying to encourage and assist his new teammates. While the team’s undefeated record shows the talent and skill of the players, it can never record the countless memories that were made by the tennis team.
