The Girls Basketball team took on Edmonds Woodway last Friday for the 2nd place spot in 3A state. The girls fell to Woodway 60-64.

The first quarter the Grizzlies started off well with back and forth play ending the quarter 13-13.

“We came out strong and played as a team. Coming off of a tough loss, we really wanted to come into this game with a good attitude. After the first quarter we were all hyped up and thought that we could win the game,” Watkins said.

After a rough second and third quarter the Grizzlies started to creep up on the Warriors. Paisley Johnson scored 11 points, contributed to the comeback. The girls came to within 9 points of the Warriors. “We all were incredibly frustrated and we needed to step up as a team. I felt that someone needed to take initiative and I did,” Johnson said. The crowd kept the team in the game with their focused attention.

“After the Lynnwood loss, it really put us down and we went into this game with a bad attitude. If we would’ve had a better attitude then I think we would have played better.” Johnson said. The girls had a comeback run in the 4th quarter that kept the whole gym on their feet. In the last 2 minutes the girls tied 60-60. Woodway stole a pass and went in for a layup. In an attempt to get the ball back, the girls fouled and the warriors took a 60-64 lead.

The Grizzlies finished the game with their dedication left on the court. “The team was very unsatisfied with the way we played and we hope that our next game, we keep our heads up and come out strong and stay strong,” Watkins said.

The Grizzlies next home game is January, 21st at 5:30 for Junior Varsity and 7:15 for Varsity against Shorewood.
